Chief Gordon Henderson, former GFSTC Director and Rome Fire Chief, remembered for his service.

The Georgia State Firefighters Association is sad to report that former Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council Executive Director Gordon Thomas Henderson has passed away at the age of 79 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Chief Henderson's fire service career began in Rome, Georgia, in 1975, where he dedicated 39 years of his life before retiring in November 2014. Throughout his tenure at the Rome Fire Department, he held various positions, including Firefighter, Engineer, Company Officer, Training Officer, Chief Officer, and ultimately, Fire Chief.

In 2010, Chief Henderson was appointed to the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council by Governor Sonny Perdue, where he served, including a term as Chairman. On November 19, 2014, he was named Executive Director of the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council (GFSTC).

During his time as Executive Director, Chief Henderson worked diligently to enhance professionalism within the Georgia Fire Service. His unwavering commitment and passion were evident daily throughout his service.

He will be profoundly missed, and the Georgia Fire Service owes him a great deal of gratitude for his dedication and contributions. The Georgia State Firefighters Association extends its heartfelt condolences to his family. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy will endure for many years to come.
