Application Period Extended for FY21 Assistance to Firefighters Grants

FEMA is working with the General Services Administration to resolve interface issues related to SAM.gov that are affecting applicant ability to begin inputting fiscal year 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program applications into the FEMA GO System. This issue included applicants that received error messages stating their organizations were not found and that their Unique Entity Identifier/Electronic Funds Transfer combination did not exist despite the applicants’ SAM.gov accounts being fully active.

New Application Deadline is Jan. 21, 2022

As this issue is ongoing, the FY 2021 AFG Program application period will remain open until 5 p.m. ET January 21, 2022. All applicants will automatically be granted this extension. This ensures that applicants affected by the Unique Entity Identifier/Electronic Funds Transfer issue will have sufficient time to complete the online application. The extension to the application period will not affect the award timeline.

FEMA continues to strongly encourage applicants to review the FY 2021 AFG Program funding notice and the associated tools posted on the FEMA website here: FY 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application Guidance Materials | FEMA.gov. In preparation for application submission, applicants may also draft their narratives separately and copy them into the appropriate areas of FEMA GO once the SAM.gov interface issue is resolved. Questions asked in the narrative section may be found in the FY 2021 AFG Program Narrative Get Ready Guide.

The Southwest Georgia Fire Chief’s Association has donated $1,500 to Peanut Proud for the Kentucky Tornado Relief effort. The Southwest Georgia Fire Chief’s Association is a group of Fire Service leaders who meet monthly to discuss the latest equipment, trends, and policies in firefighting tactics. With our Fire Department’s receiving so much support during Hurricane Michael, the Chief’s Association members wanted to help return support to those in need. In addition, the Chief’s Association members know the importance of feeding victims and the first responders during these large-scale incidents. The peanut butter from Peanut Proud is a high-protein, easy-to-store food product that can be used with many meal options. What better way to say that Southwest Georgia is thinking of you than with peanuts!

While this bill was originally designed to be similar to our Firefighter Cancer Insurance, it has been changed a few times as it has passed through committees. The House passed it with a reduction in lump sum benefit from the original $10,000 to $3,000 and a long-term disability benefit.
