Fully Involved – News From the Georgia State Firefighters Association

The Georgia Fire Academy is hosting the presentation of The Winecoff Hotel Fire - 75th Anniversary 1946-2021 December 7th, 2021.

 

This presentation will discuss the history behind the Winecoff Hotel Fire and how the fire itself changed code requirements in Georgia as it applies to the field of Fire Prevention and Code Enforcement.  This is a one (1) day delivery and will be held December 7th, 2021 at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center – Forsyth Campus - Auditorium 1000 Indian Springs Drive; Forsyth, GA 31029.

All National Fire Academy classes are offered FREE of charge to career and volunteer fire and EMS providers from across the nation. The NFA will reimburse for travel, provide dormitory lodging, and provide world-class training. The only cost for those selected to attend is their time and the cost of meals.

As we enter the closing days of this Legislative Session, we have some decisions to make about HB 451, PTSD Insurance Coverage. While this bill was originally designed to be similar to our Firefighter Cancer Insurance, it has been changed a few times as it has passed through committees. The House passed it with a reduction in lump sum benefit from the original $10,000 to $3,000 and a long-term disability benefit.
