2011 Fire and Emergency Services Equipment Show
Perry, Georgia – April 28, 2011
This was the first biennial Show sponsored by the Georgia State Firefighters Association & Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs. The show was formerly sponsored by the Georgia Forestry Commission, who had to forego the sponsorship because of the economy. The last show sponsored by the Forestry was in 2005.
The 2011 Show was held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, Georgia on April 28th. Unfortunately, the Show coincided with one of the worst storms to hit our State, and reduced the overall attendance for the Show. Despite the havoc being wreaked by tornados all across the state, though, many firefighters still showed up. Those who did not make it to the show missed the GREATEST turnout of firefighters in our history of any event. Even in the face of monstrous storms and tornados they still came out. As the weather forecast worsened throughout the day and into the night on Wednesday, all of our Worsened, spirits were just sinking because we knew this would impact the attendance. All of our vendors were already there and in place. All that was needed was the P-E-O-P-L-E for them to see. At 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning we were feeling very despondent, nobody coming thru the door. We just knew it was going to be a bust. But lo and behold, about 9:30 it opened up, the sun began to peek from behind the clouds, and bushels of people started pouring in. The Show committee all breathed a collective sigh of relief, with frowns breaking into smiles! The Show was a success!

If your department’s name is not listed here and you were there, it just means that I did not get a copy of the ‘sign in’ sheet that you signed. If you did attend the Show this year, I encourage you to ‘talk it up’ to your friends and neighbors and have them to mark their calendar for the 2013 Show. Check our website periodically for details on the 2013 show, as these will be posted once the date has been scheduled.
The Vienna Fire Department catered the Show for us with their famous DELICIOUS barbecue that was enjoyed by all the attendees.

How does YOUR county stack up? President Dixon in his article for the Spring Issue of the magazine asked this question, and the map provided with the article would not reproduce in color and would print as greyscale, negating the purpose of the map. So we decided to make this a standard posting on the website on the website for your review.
