SENATE RESOLUTION 513
COMMITTEE TO RESEARCH THE FEASIBILITY OF COMBINING ALL STATE FIRE
SERVICE AGENCIES
Senate Resolution 513 - Introduced by Senator Jeff Mullis - The purpose of this Resolution is to form the Joint Georgia State Fire Service Study Committee. The Committee will research the feasibility of combining all State Fire Service Agencies to:
• Eliminate Confusion
• Create Consistencies
• Avoid Delays
• Better provide training and education for fire officials and the public
The Committee will consist of 5 members from the House, and 5 members from the Senate. The Committee will undertake a study of the conditions, needs, issues, and problems either mentioned or related to the above bulleted items. This Committee will recommend actions or legislation that they deem necessary or appropriate.
GAFC President Craig Tully has formed a similar study committee to look into the exact same areas, but from the Georgia Fire Service. This Committee is made up of representation from board members of the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, board members of the Georgia State Firefighters Association, Regional Chiefs Associations Unification Partners, State Agencies and all other Unification partners. Chief Bryan Croft (Thomasville) is the Chair, Chief Eddie Buckholts (Forest Park) is the Vice Chair, and Chief David Trussell (Montezuma) is the Secretary.
This committee would like to gather any and all information that they can to be able to make the proper determination and recommendation to the members attending the Joint Conference in Savannah in August. We are posting this on our various websites and are asking for input and comments from the members. Replies and comments should be mailed to the GSFA Office at gsmith3809@aol.com. We need these comments back ASAP so the committee can discuss the statewide comments and concerns received, at the June and July meetings. The following questions should be answered:
1. List one (1) positive outcome that could come from this proposed consolidation effort.
2. List one (1) negative outcome that could come from this proposed consolidation effort.
3. List ALL of your concerns (positive or negative) with this proposed consolidation effort.
We would ask that everyone remain open minded, with no personal agendas. The committee wants to research this, give a recommendation, and move on. PLEASE SEND YOUR COMMENTS/CONCERNS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
